Monumental Pictures, the upstart banner from veteran Brit producers Alison Owen and Debra Hayward, has added another title to its growing upcoming slate.

The production company is set to make a big-screen biopic about Victorian mathematician and computer science icon Ada Lovelace, the daughter of notorious poet Lord Byron. A visionary who foresaw the true possibilities of his designs, she penned what is now recognized as the first algorithm intended to be carried out by a machine.

Alan Turing, the WWII code-breaker considered the father of modern computing, used Lovelace's notes to help crack the German's Enigma Code.

To develop the biopic, Monumental has partnered with Google and The Science & Entertainment Exchange, a program of Britain's National Academy of Sciences. Shawn Slovo (Muhammad Ali's Greatest Fight) will pen the screenplay.

"With a scandalous nature to rival that of her father Byron and a scientific talent which aided the discovery of the modern computer, we feel privileged to be carrying the torch for such a trailblazer," said Owen.

Added Hayward: "Much like Turing, Ada’s achievements were downplayed and denied. She was a woman out of her time – a computer pioneer with a daredevil streak. We can't wait to bring this complex and brilliant women to the screen."

Other projects in the pipeline from Monumental, in which ITV Studios Global last year took a minority stake on the TV side, include the series Harlots for Hulu and ITV and Will for TNT. Shortly after setting up in 2014 it also picked up the rights to Caitlin Moran's bestselling novel How to Build a Girl.
