Cook believes that there is no substitute for human contact while defending the company's stand on Augmented Reality.

Apple CEO Tim Cook has expressed his thoughts concerning virtual reality and augmented reality and made the statement, “There's no substitute for human contact. And so you want the technology to encourage that.”

In an interview with BuzzFeed News, during his visit to Tokyo, Cook said, “Augmented reality will take some time to get right, but I do think that it’s profound. We might … have a more productive conversation, if both of us have an AR experience standing here, right?” Explaining his take on Virtual Reality, Cook explained, “VR has some interesting applications, but I don’t think it’s a broad-based technology like AR.”

This isn’t the first instance wherein Tim Cook has voiced his focus for AR. Raving about hit smartphone game Pokemon GO in July, Cook stressed that Apple is "high on augmented reality for the long-run" and investing heavily. According to the report, the company has also held extensive meetings with immersive content companies like Jaunt.

Augmented reality and artificial intelligence are often regarded as an uneasy fit for Apple, a hardware maker that tends not to embrace new technology until it matures. And unfortunately, Apple's habit of keeping quiet until it has a finished product to show, in contrast with rivals such as Google and Facebook, which shows off its products in the open, doesn't technically help!

Yet, Tim Cook has stressed that the company is hard at work behind the scenes.
